Wikipedia protesting bad law on Wednesday! #sopa" (via @jimmy_wales) Amid a continued struggle for hearts, minds, and legislation, Wikipedia and Reddit will go ahead and go dark for 24 hours Wednesday. Wikipedia, headed by CEO Jimmy Wales, boasts 25 million unique visits per day. It is a tour de force in non-commercial exchange ethics and progression. Along with Wikipedia, Reddit, a juggernaut in its own right, will join in the black-out as well. The protest is an act against SOPA. The bill had been proposed by Republican Representative from Texas, Lamar Smith, and if passed, opponents indicate, copyright holders would be empowered in which the government will be mandated to enforce such Internet traffic and commerce conduits (i.e. Google or PayPal) to immediately stop business with the suspected vendor/participant- less any investigations prior. In essence, with a few pieces of paper processed, Internet companies will be at the whim of all corporate protests, directly inhibiting the core of the Internet's benefits. In recent months, the war between Hollywood proponents of the controversial legislation and Silicon Valley opponents.
