Red Bulls travel to Spain Wednesday

New York Red BullsThe Red Bulls will take their first preseason trip of 2010 when they head to La Manga, Spain for two weeks from Wednesday, Jan. 20 to Feb. 4. Under new head coach Hans Backe, the Red Bulls will face off against Russia's CSKA Moscow and Rubin Kazan on Jan. 24 and Feb. 1, respectively and Poland's Lech Poznan on Jan. 27.

Both Russian teams competed in this year's UEFA Champions League, with CSKA qualifying for the first knockout round, where they will face Spain's Sevilla in a two-leg, home-and-home series starting on Feb. 24. Rubin Kazan placed third in Group F and was put into the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 draw, where it will take on Israel's Hapoel Tel Aviv on Feb. 18. Lech Poznan qualified for the UEFA Europa League but it was knocked out by Belgium's Club Brugge in qualifying rounds on penalty kicks after the teams were tied 1-1 on aggregate last August.

After returning to the United States, the Red Bulls will travel to Florida in February, with final dates to be determined. New York opens brand-new Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ on March 27, when it hosts the Chicago Fire at 7:00 PM ET.
