New York continues its strong preseason with Disney Pro Soccer Classic title

Walt disney Classic championsThe New York Red Bulls rode a three-goal performance by forward Juan Pablo Angel to defeat Toronto FC 4-0 Saturday, Feb. 27 and win the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, FL. Forward Conor Chinn also scored for New York, which has gone unbeaten in the 2010 preseason, as it improved to 4-0-3 with Saturday's win. The Red Bulls, who did not concede a goal during the tournament, advanced to the Championship Game after they defeated the Houston Dynamo in a penalty kick shootout, 6-5, on Thursday following a 0-0 tie.

The Red Bulls nearly took the lead eight minutes in, as a Sinisa Ubiparipovic free kick found Angel open in the box. He took a touch before firing right at goalkeeper Stefan Frei. Six minutes later, Angel tried a bicycle kick after taking a feed from Roy Miller, but his strike went wide right. New York forward John Agudelo had his first chance of the night in the 23rd minute, racing into the Toronto FC penalty box and hitting a shot deflected by defender Nick Garcia off the right post. On the ensuing corner kick, rookie defender Tim Ream was able to get space but nodded his attempt over the bar.

After knocking on the door several times in the first half, Angel put the Red Bulls in front in the 32nd minute. Midfielder Joel Lindpere swung in a left-footed corner kick and the Colombian Designated Player beat his man to the near post and headed it into the back of the net.

New York doubled its lead five minutes later. Ream had possession in New York's half and slid a splitting through ball to an on-rushing Miller. Miller slung a low cross into the six-yard-box that Angel one-timed past Frei.

Angel tallied his hat trick four minutes into the second half. Chinn had the ball at the top of the box and he slid it to Seth Stammler, who found Austin da Luz open on the left. Da Luz hit it low ball across goal and Angel re-directed it in.

Toronto FC threatened New York's goal later in the interval, as a Marvell Wynne shot was high in the 58th minute and Dwayne De Rosario's free kick curled over the bar. Toronto FC's Vincent Kayizzi had his team's best chance up to that point moments later, as Red Bulls goalkeeper Caleb Patterson-Sewell saved the midfielder's 12-yard on-target attempt.

The Red Bulls went a man up in the 69th minute when Julian de Guzman slid in dangerously on Angel and the Toronto FC player was given a red card by referee Hilario Grajeda.

Patterson-Sewell was again called into action 12 minutes from full time when he got a hand on an O'Brian White right-footed shot. Chinn almost gave New York its fourth goal when he headed a pass wide soon after. However, Chinn did not miss in the 85th minute, nodding home a da Luz first-time volley to give the Red Bulls the 4-0 advantage.
