Red Bulls head coach underwent surgery |
|
Hans Backe had his gallbladder removed on Monday night after being diagnosed with cholecystitis. The surgery was successful and Backe is making his recovery, although he probably won't be with the team for a couple weeks. In the meantime, assistant coaches Richie Williams and Goran Aral will run the team, with help from general manager Erik Soler and goalkeeping coach Des McAleenan.
Red Bull New York today released this statement regarding head coach Hans Backe:
After consulting with Red Bulls Team Internist, Michael Farber, MD and other medical specialists, Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe decided to undergo a minimally invasive procedure Monday evening to remove his gallbladder after being diagnosed with cholecystitis.
The surgery was successful, and Hans is now recovering and in good spirits. The medical team is confident that he will make a full recovery over the coming weeks. He will spend the next few days resting at home. In his absence, the squad will be managed by our experienced coaching staff. The club is confident that the coaching staff will help continue the team’s strong start to the 2010 MLS season. -Red Bull New York
