Triple 5, the developers of the stalled “American Dream” megamall project at the Meadowlands, are facing backlash. The New York Jets and Giants are suing to block construction, saying it would create transportation issues and discourage football fans from attending games. The mall is poised to be the largest mall in the United States and will include a vast array of retail shops, an indoor snow park, amusement rides, and a water park.

Though according the Triple 5’s Web site, the project is nearly 80-percent complete, the developers are seeking to expand the entertainment portion of the complex. The company is in the midst of trying to finalize almost $2 billion in financing to finish the megamall.

Officials from the Jets and Giants cite a prior agreement stating that any expansion plans at the site must be approved by the professional sports teams if its game days could be effected. The teams claim that the developers never obtained their consent for an expansion of the East Rutherford project site. Lawyers for the teams filed a suit in the Bergen County Superior Court on Friday.

According to NBC, the mall developers, who also own the Mall of America in Minnesota,  said that the suit was “frivolous” and it was an insult to taxpayers and jobseekers in New Jersey.
