Great story on Cifellis tavern. Chippy & Al Italians had most Irish customers. When they were building HHS on 5th two black workers came in for lunch. They had a thick Irish brogue as they were from Dublin. Chippy told them to come back at nite and he would give them free beer if they would agree to talk a lot. So they did and all the Irish customers had to sit and listen all nite.

Harry Lighten up That was just the way it was in 30s & 40s Just a culture class. But ways changed with more Italians married to Irish and vice versa. Good example Cifellis Tavern Chippy & Al (Italians) were the no.1 sponsors of the Saint Patricks Parade. Can You name your friends without mentioning some Italians? And again neither can the Italians cant mention friends without Irish. Harrison then was a proud collection of Irish,Italion & Poles all with proud heritages.

Is this my buddy Frank from HHS?What a great story!!As I was reading I was thinking how this really captured old Harrison ,particularly the "alley".Then I saw your name and enjoyed it even more.Early Harrison was a microcosm of Immigration in America. My family was on the Irish end.Harrison had the Poles and the Germans and further back the Dutch. It was vibrant. The factories provided work for almost everyone. Your story was like a color Photo of that "Black and White" world. Thanks Frank
