PATH belonging to a category called "rapid transit system" (in operation since 1908) mass transportation rail network, hit another ridership high of 76.6 million passengers in 2010, statistics show, surpassing a previous record of 74.9 million in 2008.
The owner and operator of PATH is the Port Authority of NY & NJ, which took over the management duties from Hudson and Manhattan Railroad (H&M), in 1962. The 13.8 mile (22.2 km) rail network today connects two states, New York and New Jersey. It supports 13 stations at major junctions allowing millions of customers to travel quickly and efficiently across and between the Hudson River.
