Lincoln School consists of a multicultural student population of 823 enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade Five. We are proud of our current programs as well as our progress in meeting new educational standards. Through professional development efforts both in and out of the district, our staff is preparing to meet the challenge of our changing needs.
Our curriculum meets the New Jersey State mandated Core Curriculum Standards and our staff strives to ensure that these skills are taught and mastered. The curriculum focuses on learning as a process. Emphasis is placed on encouraging students to become life-long problem solvers and critical thinkers through the use of creative teaching strategies.
The NJAsk 3, NJAsk 4, NJAsk 5, along with the TerraNova at Grades K-2, are the standardized assessments being utilized. We have been disaggregating data for several years to enhance decision making on how best to prepare our learners to meet state and federal standards of the No Child Left Behind Act.
Lincoln School continues to integrate technology into the curriculum. Each student is given the opportunity to be exposed to new technologies both in our computer labs and with additional computers in each classroom. An Internet policy with stringent safeguards provides educational access to the World Wide Web.
The School Leadership Council (SLC) is the group in which the critical questions related to school improvement are asked. The SLC oversees broad planning, dealing with such issues as improving students self esteem and self concept, individual and group social development, modification of the curriculum to meet the special needs of the student population, reducing failures and retention, developing a school wide behavior modification program, and generating training programs as well as schoolwide programs for educators, parents and children.
The Student & Staff Support Team (SSST) provides global recommendations to implement the work of the School Leadership Council, integrating child development principles into the fabric of school activities. The SSST also provides teachers with strategies for managing child interactions and behaviors within the classroom.
Our Parent-Teacher organization continues to be actively involved in the school. In conjunction with community members, the PTO has sponsored food drives, safety programs, poster contests, fund raisers and other numerous projects annually. Their support and generosity for our students is invaluable. Our parent liaison is currently working with the SLC to develop strategies to overcome barriers to family involvement.
Lincoln School's foundation is the belief that every child has the ability to learn and that high expectations promote student achievement. Lincoln School continues its commitment to increasing parental involvement through participation in meaningful activities. Together, we believe that our students can perform optimally when all the adults involved in their lives work cooperatively.
Our commitment lies in modifying our approaches, so that every child learns and is well prepared regardless of their experience at home and the other external factors that can affect their academic performance. We will continue to strive to reach the highest educational success for all our students.
