Red Bulls pushing paperless technology
Red Bull Arena

Smart cards will activate turnstiles at the team’s new stadiumHARRISON, NJ-- The New York Red Bulls implementation of RFID technology at Red Bull Arena will allow the club to issue all-inclusive smart cards to more than 6,000 season ticket holders.

The paperless ticketing / admission / concession system, sold by London based Fortress GB, will allow season-ticket holders to automatically pass through the turnstiles at the stadium. In addition, the smart card will be used to expedite purchases at concession stands located at Red Bull Arena.

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the use of an object (typically referred to as an RFID tag) applied to or incorporated into a product or person for the purpose of identification and tracking using radio waves.

From the Red Bulls’ point of view, this is the future of sport in North America. In 5 to 10 years very few teams won’t be using this system
-Erik Stover, New York Red Bulls Managing Director

The club also plans to offer the users of the smart card various premiums, like discounts at the concession stands and exclusive autograph sessions.
