United States hosts Ecuador tonight at Red Bull Arena

Red Bull Arena will host the United States Men’s National Team for the first time in its history, as the Americans will face the Ecuador National Team on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 7:00 PM. It will be broadcast live on ESPN2, ESPN3 and Univision. Fans can also follow along on ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker and Twitter @ussoccer.
The match will be the second for U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann in four days in early October as the U.S. will face Honduras three days earlier on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. Both matches fall during an international fixture window, which gives Klinsmann the opportunity to call in a full complement of players.

NBC & NBC Sports Network to televise 49 games per season, including four appearances by U.S. Men’s National Team

Major League Soccer (MLS) and the NBC Sports Group today announced a three-year media rights agreement, which commences at the start of the 2012 MLS season. The partnership calls for 45 MLS games and four U.S. Men’s National Team contests to be televised live across both NBC and NBC Sports Network each season. This marks the first rights deal for the newly-named cable channel that will be re-branded from VERSUS on January 2, 2012. The announcement was made today by MLS Commissioner and Soccer United Marketing CEO Don Garber and Mark Lazarus, Chairman, NBC Sports Group.

In front of a sellout crowd in Harrison, the MLS All Stars were aiming to avenge last year’s 5-2 drubbing at the hands of Manchester United. Instead the raucous crowd was treated to a dominant performance by the Champions League finalists who romped to a 4-0 victory over the All Stars.

Under new format, 10 teams will vie for chance at MLS Cup
NEW YORK - Today Major League Soccer announced the format for the 2011 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Ten clubs will qualify for the 2011 MLS Cup Playoffs:
The top three finishers in each conference, based on regular season points (six automatic berths) The next best four clubs based on regular season points, irrespective of conference (four wild cards) The four wild cards will play single elimination games against each other, with higher seeds hosting (1 vs. 4; 2 vs. 3). These play-in games are part of the MLS Cup Playoffs. After the two play-in games conclude, the lowest remaining seed will face the Supporters' Shield winner in the Conference Semifinals; the other will face the No. 1 seed in the opposite conference from the Supporters' Shield winner.
