Washington Middle School is a diverse multicultural 6-8 middle school. Our dedicated, highly qualified staff helps all of our students achieve success in all academic areas.
Our School Leadership Council meets regularly to address the needs of our students and staff, with input from our team of parents, teachers and staff. They create an operational plan and orchestrate all school activities throughout the year. All needs-based Initiatives, centered on the developmental requirements of our students and geared to NCLB are designed, discussed and implemented after intense scrutiny by our professional staff and parents.
The Washington Middle School curriculum is being revised and mapped in conjunction with the Central Office with invaluable offerings from our school committees. Their decisions will come after careful data assessment, professional experience and individual expertise. This assures that it will meet all Federal, State and District goals.
We are constantly looking to bring the best educational concepts to our school. We are using a new Social Studies textbook series this year after implementing a new Mathematics series last year. The Language Arts Program is being upgraded through Professional Development and the acquisition of new, pertinent materials. The Science Department is investigating a new series in alignment with the new state assessment science component of NJAsk. All of these changes came after committee members met and discussed the needs of the students and school and researched until they found the best possible series to meet our goals.
This year, a new lunch program with a closed lunch was put into place guaranteeing a nutritious lunch and a much safer and structured environment for our school. This, along with block-scheduling, keeps our students under the professional direction and guidance of our staff throughout the entire school day.
Washington Middle School's faculty is highly qualified and their diversity allows them to identify and cater to the needs of our student body with intelligence, compassion and a personal touch that inspires our children to attain loftier goals throughout their lives. All faculty teach sixth, seventh and eighth grades which affords them the unique opportunity to observe, teach and assist the growth and development of this challenging age group.
At Washington Middle School, the administration addresses the needs of the teachers' professional learning with 20 hours of in-district training annually. We also send teachers out to professional workshops that meet the needs of our teachers and students. Additionally, professional learning consultants are brought into the District to address the educational needs of staff and students.
Finally, we have moved into a larger facility with an environment that will surely enhance our quest for future successes. It has more classrooms which allow all instructors their own space, an auditorium for concerts, shows and assemblies and a huge gymnasium and pool facility. As a result, our children will be much more broadly educated and prepared for success in high school and beyond.
All of these factors contributed to Washington Middle School meeting all of its AYP benchmarks, a truly great achievement for our teachers and students.
